Hoax is a very packed half-size zine edited by two white, queer women exploring feminism in intimate relationships. Polyamory (both in theory and practice), marriage, and possibilities for feminist hetero relationships are all given thoughtful and often first person treatment. The zine also talks about some issues of feminism less related to relationships, including womyn-only consciousness raising groups and the reclaiming and defending of feminism, both in word and practice. Highlights include a critique of mainstream news coverage on how the economic recession has affected straight couples ("Money and Power as a Zero-Sum Game in Hetero Relationships") to a humorous essay by a male camp counselor who critiques his camper's use of the perjorative term "pussy" and the glorified masculine courage implied in the slang word "balls."
This zine puts feminism front and center in a straightforward, unapologetic way that refreshingly doesn't get caught up in quagmire-y, side issues (no debates here about trans inclusion or whether or not it's feminist to follow beauty standards). An excellent, engaging read put together with a clean, accessible layout,
