Zines: Herbs & Foods for Mental Well-Being
This short but useful publication from the Providence Icarus Project group gives you a quick run-down of a lot of herbs and foods that you can use to support your mental health. Whether you use western medicine to treat mental issues or not, herbs and foods can support healing and ease transitions and stressful times. Check with an herbalist or get a more detailed description of the effects and interactions of these herbs before you take them in large quantities or combine them with other medications. In the meantime, this zine can provide some quick tips for further reseach as well as a bunch of foods that will nourish your body and mind, and some things to avoid.
"Cooking with friends and family, especially really intentionally mentally nourishing foods, feels really good, and there is a lot to be said about the restorative effects of doing nice things for yourself!" -Herbs and Foods, p. 3

The Icarus Project The Icarus Project "envisions a new culture and language that resonates with our actual experiences of 'mental illness' rather than trying to fit our lives into a conventional framework. We are a network of people living with and/or affected by experiences that are commonly diagnosed and labeled as psychiatric conditions. We believe these experiences are mad gifts needing cultivation and care, rather than diseases or disorders. By joining together as individuals and as a community, the intertwined threads of madness, creativity, and collaboration can inspire hope and transformation in an oppressive and damaged world."
